In cities and suburbs do most good folk dwell,

My own humble bed in civil lands lies.

But warmth, comfort, and plenty obscure quite well

The loss of freedom from civilized eyes.

Far off and away in wild-land cold,

Across an ocean of gnashing waves,

Liberty’s spirit, does nature yet hold,

Among stone and crag, in deepest caves.

That is where my mind’s eye falls,

Where my spirit longs so to dwell,

When trapped am I in stone brick walls,

And to be there among the gods would do my heart well.
