Monument

A brief poem inspired by initials carved in the trunk of a tree.

Man grasps eternally at permanence.
The marks of his ongoing quest are seen
In craven images of names and men,
In old cairns and vast constructs immense,
In steel and glass and neon menagerie –
While his ambitions bow to mother earth.
While his creations fall to father time.
